Just about anyone can be a Mystery Shopper, as Mystery Shopping companies always need a wide range of people from all walks of life. The minimum age is usually 18; however, there is no upper age range.
If you are a stay at home mum or dad, a senior citizen, a student, or even if you have a full-time job but want a little extra cash on the side, you are a good candidate to become a Mystery Shopper / Secret Shopper.
You will need access to a computer, a phone, and a reliable internet connection, and be computer literate enough to use quite straight forward online reporting systems and send and receive emails.
It would also be beneficial to have a mobile phone with a camera, as you may need to take photos during your assignments. These photos could be a proof of visit photo or to point out issues within the store or restaurant etc.
It is very important if you want to become a Secret Shopper / Mystery Shopper to make sure firstly that you provide a well-written application, that follows all the instructions provided to the letter.
Mystery Shopping / Secret Shopping is all about reliability and attention to detail, so make sure you don’t fall at the first hurdle. Just because you complete an application does not mean you will get any assignments.
Typically when you fill out an application to become a Secret Shopper / Mystery Shopper someone within that company will review your application within a few days and approve it or decline it, it is unusual to be told why your application was declined or to be contacted, you just won’t receive any work.
When filling out an application, take your time, save your application as you go and make sure you read and follow the instructions provided and follow them as closely as possible. If you don’t do this, then you will be wasting your time.
Be aware before starting an application to become a Mystery Shopper / Secret Shopper that in most cases you will be required to provide photo ID and either an ABN number OR a completed and signed Statement by Supplier form.
